It’s that time of year to get some chores done around the house. We know, it can be a bit tedious, but hopefully we can help by reminding you of the importance of certain maintenance musts.
It’s really the time to focus on the outside to get ready for cold Winter months. Fall is a beautiful time of year with the changing of the leaves. But, as they turn brown and fall off, it creates quite a mess. Be sure to stay on top of raking your leaves. If you fail to remove the dead leaves, your beautiful Spring grass and flowers won’t come back the way they should.
Pay attention to your trees! Get rid of fragile limbs that could fall under the weight of snow. Pines especially can be prone to disease through the Winter months. Monitor them closely and call in a pro if you discover anything unusual.
After all of the falling leaves, imagine how many land in your downspouts and gutters. It is vitally important to clear all of that debris out of those small spaces. If you don’t clear it out, water will fail to drain out, leaving it to pool on your roof which could lead to damage or leaks.
Make sure your garage is stocked up on Winter supplies you might need for a big storm. You don’t want to be left scrambling for a shovel at the first storm, only to find out everyone else is doing the same! Think about ice scrapers for your car and salt to remove ice on walkways.
Shut off exterior faucets & store your hoses. Have someone turn off the water and blow out your sprinkler system. Here in Colorado, it’s easy for pipes to freeze and break.
Take a good look around the exterior of the house. Spot small holes where animals could seek refuge. Seal them up!
Make it fun and enlist the kids for help! Raking can be fun and jumping into piles of leaves is even better! Make some memories while making sure your home is in tip top shape for Winter!
